Broken Box Kids! is back at PAC's Family Day! Catch us in the lobby theater for a 30-min set of repertoire with a speaking emcee at 11:15, and stick around in the afternoon for more great free family activities, including pop-up performances by the mimes. A beautiful day at a beautiful venue!

In this three-hour workshop, Becky will first introduce Broken Box's style of modern mime, one based in naturalism and developed through collaborative process. We'll then expand the toolbox, playing with body language, ensemble stage picture, cinematic visuals, and transformations.

Physical Storytelling 101 w/ Broken Box Mime Theater (5-Week Workshop, Sundays)
Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) invites artists of all backgrounds to join in exploring the audience's imagination as medium. From the perspective of BKBX's unique brand of mime based in American narrative style, participants will look at body language, basic mime technique, staging metaphor, efficiency in storytelling, and devised process. How can precision, efficiency, and specificity in physical storytelling help to craft our comedy? Over the course of the series, students will craft mime pieces that will be shared in a final showing in December.
5-Week Class: Sundays, 12:00-3:00, March 1st - March 29th

The Poetry Electric fuses music, movement, sound, and dance with the spoken word and presents artists working in a wide range of styles including beatboxing, jazz and hip-hop theatre. This series has presented over 200 emerging poets from diverse cultural backgrounds.

My Little Eye in Battery Park
‘My Little Eye’ mixes mime stories and spoken narration in a joyful 40-minute program for kids ages 3-9. It is hosted by Poppy the Caterpillar (played by PS361Q parent Géraldine Dulex), who guides students through three silent stories. There will be tree-climbing, a baking adventure, an enormous snail, a torrential downpour, and even some move-from-your-seats engagement from our audience members.

The summer is for learning! Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) invites folks of all backgrounds to join in exploring the audience's imagination as medium. From the perspective of BKBX's unique brand of mime based in a US-American narrative style, participants will spend the weekend learning about body language, basic mime technique, staging metaphor, efficiency in storytelling, and devised process. How can these concepts expand our artistry? Our curiosity? Our awareness of physical communication?
This intensive is open to students of all experience levels. Past students of BKBX welcome. Varied access needs welcome; please email us at brokenboxmime@gmail.com should you need an interpreter or any other accommodation, and/or note it in this form where instructed!
The two-day intensive will include:
Technique foundations, including establishing invisible objects and physical precision
Establishing environment, character, and relationship without words
Cinematic techniques onstage: transformations in Time, Scale, and Space
The body as storyteller: writing and staging wordless narratives as an ensemble
About the Weekend:

Participants should be available for the full duration of the intensive.
Sessions will run 10a - 12:30p and 1:30p - 4p daily with a 1h lunch break.
Participants provide or buy their own lunch, there will be a kitchen/fridge available at Mercury Store.

Small Talk @ The 53rd St Library
Join us for a free all-ages show at the 53rd St library in midtown!
We are delighted to be back at the 53rd Street Library with Small Talk. We’ll perform some of our favorite nonverbal narratives in a variety of genres, celebrating the limitless possibilities of physical storytelling. The show features a speaking emcee, who gives spoken descriptions of how the art was made, offering audiences a look behind the curtain - or beyond the box, as it were.
