Physical Storytelling: Class Show
Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) invites artists of all backgrounds to join in exploring the audience's imagination as medium. From the perspective of BKBX's unique brand of mime based in American narrative style, participants will look at body language, basic mime technique, staging metaphor, efficiency in storytelling, and devised process. How can precision, efficiency, and specificity in physical storytelling help to craft our comedy? Over the course of the series, students will craft mime pieces that will be shared in a final showing in December.
SMALL TALK in Massachusetts
Broken Box Mime partners with Newton Theatre Company in Newton, Massachusetts, to present SMALL TALK: A Show About How (And Why!) We Tell Stories in Mime.
In SMALL TALK, the cast will present several of our favorite non-speaking narratives, skipping across genres and celebrating the limitless possibilities of physical storytelling. The show will interweave spoken descriptions of how the art was made by Artistic Director and Newtonite Becky Baumwoll, offering audiences a look behind the curtain - or beyond the box, as it were.
Appropriate for all ages! Tickets $15 adult, $10 kid, free for under 5. No one turned away for lack of funds. Running time: approximately one hour.
This show is made possible with support from Newton Theatre Company and the Newton Cultural Council!
Cast: Becky Baumwoll, Tia Cassmira, Ismael Castillo, David Jenkins, Tasha Milkman, Jae Woo
INSEKT
BKBX makes our debut at Tufts University!
…Did you just see something move? Broken Box Mime Theater presents INSEKT, a show about seemingly small things that make a big stir. Without a single spoken word, stories will stretch from absurdist comedy to poetic drama, from exoskeletons to the skeletons of our exes. A pop idol sheds his skin, a tween transforms through love, and a cockroach meets her match. Gregor Samsaa could never.
