Matt Zambrano

Matt is a native of Denver, Colorado and a recent graduate of the National Theater Conservatory.  He is a nationally recognized actor, writer and spoken-word artist, and was a semi-finalist at the National Poetry Slam in 2007.  Credits include: Peter and The Starcatcher, Scapin, Loves Labours Lost, Richard II, The Merry Wives of Windsor (Utah Shakes),The Santaland Diaries, The Liar, Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew (DCPA), Becket (Lingk Productions), The Story Pirates NYC and Accomplice: The Show!; He was also featured in the 2012 documentary The People Vs. George Lucas, and recently published his first book of poetry and prose entitles Edible Origami. He would like to thank his lovely wife Liberty for all her love and support.  This is Matt's first show with BKBX.

Why Mime?

It is a uniquely intimate art form, and one which I've always wanted to learn more about.

When did you first encounter/learn about mime?

I had to play a mute clown character for a one-act, and read up on a lot of technique for physical storytelling, which came out of a book called "Mime Ministry" I bought at a thrift store. 

How did you find Broken Box Mime Theater?

I found them pleasant, and easy to work with. 

If you had a solo mime piece about your life, what would it be called and why?

 "There and Back Again: A Mime’s Tale".  OR "Mime Triumphs, Mime Mistakes". ‘Nuff said.

 What is your favorite thing about mime?

 It presents an opportunity for storytelling free of ego, flash, lavishness or over-indulgence.  I love that watching mime is like watching a silent movie; one that you you know you've seen before and you know you  love it but you don't quite remember how it ends.

What is your favorite food?

 Mexican Food...The food of my people.

What’s your most played song?

 According to  my iTunes, it is "Hold On" by Alabama Shakes.  Great Album!

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?


What’s your favorite mode of transportation?

JetPack.  Or maybe Hover-board.

The Silver Surfer, Skyrider of the Spaceways!

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Carl Sagan, Gandalf and Beck hybrid.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?

The Big Bang! 

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Play the's always seemed like wizardy to me.

If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?

Writing a letter a day to everyone in my life who has ever meant anything or taught me anything. 

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

Practicing the Ukelele, reading comics!

What celebrity do you get mistaken for?

Peter Lorre. 

What story does your family always tell about you?

The one with the happy ending I hope...
