Originating from Chicago, making waves in Athens OH and then Louisville KY, Dinah found herself in NYC in the sweet Summer of 2011. In 2012, she got involved with BKBX and hasn’t looked back since. Other than Miming, Dinah thoroughly enjoys exploring the world of Clown, as well as Improviser at The PIT (People’s Improv Theatre). Thanks to the BKBX family for welcoming me in. You are all my creative home.

Why Mime?

Because it forces me to shut up and just tell the story, sans tangents.

When did you first encounter/learn about mime?

Honestly, I didn’t know much about it until Broken Box Mime.

How did you find Broken Box Mime Theater?

One day while perusing Actors Access Casting Calls, like ya do as an unemployed Actor, I came upon a casting call for a show/new company members. The audition notice read “Create a silent 2-5 minute piece. Music Optional.” That was it. It terrified me. I had no idea what I was doing, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

If you had a solo mime piece about your life, what would it be called and why?

The Masochist: True Tales of a Forever-Fool

What is your favorite thing about mime?

When you strip away the set, props, costumes, even a part of the performers identity is taken when we put on the paint, when you take that all away, you leave the audience with no other choice but to project their own setting, props, costumes, characters. It becomes an incredibly personal experience and no two people view a piece the same way. I love that.

What is your favorite food?

Any meal made with tender love and care. Also, I recently re-discovered steak…

What’s your most played song?

Public: Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta by Geto Boys
Private: Teenage Dirtbag by Weezer

What's your favorite quote?

“It’s hard not to be vain, in a room full of mirrors.” - My friend Jack

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?

Foggy early mornings on a lake.

What’s your favorite mode of transportation?

I would imagine Pegasus, but I have yet to find one. If anyone has any leads, please contact me ASAP.

What sound do you love?

All the muffled outside sounds you hear when under water.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Amy Sedaris.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?

Extinction of the dinosaurs.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Speak every language. Including other species languages. Lord knows I try, but when I bark at a dog, they just look at me as if to say, “Oh honey. You need to work on your dialect.”
